Summer Missions for Families and Adults
Serving Children’s Homes in Mexico:
We will be serving across the border from Texas at two different children’s homes in Mexico near Matamoros: Hogar de Niños Angeles de Dios and nearby Esperanza Viva Casa Hogar. Children participate in all team activities alongside their parents: working on projects, preparing and serving meals, worship and devotion times, and playing with the children we’re visiting. This is not a “youth” trip. Children must be accompanied by at least one parent and must have graduated from third grade. This is also a great time for singles and adults to join a HERO Maker team.
Spanish Not Required
It’s not necessary to be able to speak Spanish. All children speak “fun” and a smile will help you connect fast. You may want to come with a few ideas for a fun game or activity that doesn’t take a lot of instruction to understand. Some of the children speak English, but don’t count on a translator always being available.
Accommodations
Our guest worker dorm is air conditioned, and our schedule is adjusted to accommodate the hottest part of summer days in this tropical climate.
Typical Daily Schedule
The team heads out to work on projects after an early breakfast. We usually join the elementary school children for lunch right on the property, followed by a short fellowship time with them after the meal.
Everyone retires in the afternoon during the hottest part of the day. Our team will retreat to the air conditioned dorm for worship and devotions in the early afternoon. Following our group time, people are free to rest or enjoy quiet activities in the dorm.
Later in the afternoon the team fires up again to prepare and serve dinner for one of the children’s homes, followed by evening activities with our hosts. We usually return to the dorm sometime after 9 pm.
